DEWORMING PUPPIES

Fenbendazole cannot be started until puppies are at least 6 weeks old BUT Pyrantel Pamoate can and SHOULD BE STARTED when puppies are 2 weeks old. Give Pyrantel Pamoate starting at 2 weeks old and again every 2 weeks until puppies are 6 weeks old at which point switch them to the Fenbendazole dewormer administered every 2 weeks until they’re 8 weeks old or every 2 weeks until they go home. Please discuss your worming protocol as a breeder or dog owner with your vet.

GIARDIA TREATMENT: 3 days

Fenbendazole can be used as a Giardia preventative/treatment and it also covers a wider range of parasites. Fenbendazole removes and controls a broad spectrum of stomach and intestinal worms. It is useful against the most common canine intestinal worms including whipworms, hookworms, roundworms and tapeworms.

Treatment of Giardia infections in dogs and cats:

Give Fenbendazole once daily for 3 days. Fenbendazole has been shown to be completely effective in eliminating experimental Giardia infections, and with only mild vomiting/diarrhea as potential side effects.

SAFETY: Fenbendazole is safe. Doses up to 100 times the recommended dose of 20 mg per pound are tolerated without serious side effects. It is also safe for use with pregnant and lactating dogs. An accidental overdose may cause minor vomiting and diarrhea. It is also possible that dogs might experience hypersensitivity reactions to dying parasites. If facial swelling, hives, scratching, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs or lethargy ensue, your dog may be experiencing an allergic reaction. In cases of accidental overdose or allergic reactions you should contact a veterinarian immediately.

Caution: This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. Do not deworm a dog, puppy or cat that is sick. Do not use this without the recommendation of your vet. Notify the vet if your dog is taking any other medicines or supplements. Tell the vet about any medical conditions your dog suffers from. Only give this to dogs or cats over 6 weeks of age. Avoid use on very sick or debilitated dogs or cats.
